Hardware Design

Linux friendly shall be built using commodity hardware with enterprise components. Dell, HP and Supermicro all deliver basic servers without too much hassle.

Server specs

Servers are to have at least the following hardware (or better):

  • 2 CPU with 16 threads each
  • 32 GB Ram ECC
  • 3 TB Harddisk room in a raid-5 configuration

Controllers

Controllers have at least the following hardware on board:

  • 2 Xeon CPU with 16 threads
  • 64GB Ram
  • 3 TB Harddrive space with 4 drives operating in raid-5 mode.
  • 4 network cards
  • Remote console

Compute

Compute nodes have at least the following hardware on board:

  • 2 Xeon CPU with 32 threads
  • 256GB Ram
  • 6 TB Harddrive space with 4 drives operating in raid-5 mode.
  • 4 network cards
  • Remote console

Storage

Storage nodes have at least the following hardware on board:

  • 2 Xeon CPU with 16 threads
  • 32GB Ram
  • 60TB Harddrive space able to operate in raid-5 mode.
  • 6 network cards, of which 2 are dedicated to the storage and 2 to the backup networks.
  • Remote console
